Stevens Needle Holder

A Stevens Needle Holder (also called a needle driver) is a surgical instrument used primarily in ophthalmological surgeries to grasp and manipulate surgical needles. A Stevens needle holder has a scissor-like design, with one handle shorter than the other. The shorter handle is held by the surgeon's thumb and index finger, while the longer handle is held with the other fingers. This configuration gives the surgeon a more stable grasp and greater control of the needle holder, which is critical for delicate procedures on small, fragile structures like the eye. The shorter handle also places the surgeon's hand closer to the surgical site, which reduces the travel distance when manipulating the needle. This helps reduce fatigue and hand tremors. The tips of the jaw are serrated for a firm grasp of the needle for precision and accuracy when manipulating the needle.
